to September 28, 2008
Time: Opening Reception, 1:00 - 4:00pm Sept. 7
Location: 211 East First Street, Sanford, FL
Description: We are pleased to host a one woman show for Ruby C. Williams, one of Florida's matriarchs of folk art with a national reputation. Ruby is best known for her passions: farming, preaching, and painting. Next to her roadside produce stand is a walk-in gallery that features brightly painted signs advertising fresh fruits and vegetables along with some of Ruby's life lessons, like "It costs to hate" and "Over and over I need someone."
The show will feature a broad selection of produce signs, whimsical sayings, and a cast of fictional characters that Ruby has created from her imagination, like Ms. Sugar Sugar and Bonnie Bon Bonnie.
Williams was a 2005 recipient of the Florida Folk Heritage Award and has had her work exhibited at the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum in Washington D.C.
