Pop Up Show with Kent Ambler

Join us for a one day only Pop Up Show with Kent Ambler on July 1st, from noon – 2pm. Kent will travel from his home and studio in South Carolina to Jeanine Taylor Folk Art to share his latest nature inspired woodblock prints.

For Kent Ambler, inspiration can be found all around. His beautiful home studio is tucked away on the edge of a forest close to Paris Mountain State Park in western South Carolina. Kent’s studio is lined with picture windows overlooking an expansive woodland bursting with a menagerie of wildlife. “My work usually starts with an observation or a quick sketch.” Kent tells us, “The images that I sketch then become a leaping point for the exploration of aesthetic qualities.”

Once inspiration strikes and the idea has been fine-tuned, Kent begins to carve a series of wood plates that yield an outstanding depth and compositional flow. After carving is complete, colored ink is methodically laid out, each with an assigned brayer. His completed prints exude a peaceful balance and a spark of mystery.
